Dr. Peter Currie, a licensed psychologist and behavioral health executive, became President of Summit Institute and Desert Clinic Pain Institute (DCPI) in February of 2018. He is responsible for the strategic growth of this established multi-clinic integrated complex pain group focused on providing transdisciplinary team care to high need/high cost populations.
Prior to joining Summit Institute and DCPI (2009 – 2016), Dr. Currie served as senior director of clinical transformation and behavioral health for Inland Empire Health Plan, a public health plan serving more than 1.2 million Medi-Cal, Healthy Kids, and Medicare dual-eligible members in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Additionally, as a fellow in the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Peter worked to establish the Inland Empire Autism Assessment Center where he continues to serve as Board Chairman. Dr. Currie also served as senior vice president of program strategy and innovation at the California Health Care Foundation (2016 – 2017), where he led programmatic and operational activities with an emphasis on the integration of physical and behavioral health care.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Currie developed regional behavioral health delivery systems for Medical Groups and Health Management Organizations in Southern California. He also directed inpatient psychiatric programs where he designed and implemented “Rapid Stabilization” programs for university medical centers and freestanding psychiatric hospitals.
